a few things i love about memphis: food, music, and lamar sorrento. lamar is a memphis artist i met many years ago while i was working at an art store for 10 years. he's this bob dylan meets lou reed kind of looking guy. he used to come in and wander to the paint supplies, and kind of creeped me out. it took years for a us to break the little bit of conversation, but i finally found his soft spot: dirty jokes! we ended up becoming mildly dirty joke/art friends. he makes great folk style painting of musicians and icons that you can see in all over nooks in memphis. i asked him one day, that if he ever did a painting of john wayne, i'd love to buy it. the next day, he showed up with one, painted just for me, at no cost :)
